MANILA – On Sunday, August 2, eight (8) English language teachers from the Philippines flew to Japan to take part in the 2015 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT). The Filipino ALT participants to this year’s programme and their respective places of appointment are: Ms. Maria Carla Jessica Abano (Gunma Prefecture); Ms. Hessel Anne Domingo (Gifu Prefecture); Ms. Chessamika Gatdula (Hiroshima Prefecture); Mr. Enrique Legaspi (Shimane Prefecture); Ms. Shieba Magno (Tokyo); Ms. Mari-Edlynne G. Molina (Hyogo Prefecture); Mr. Joan Valenzuela (Okinawa Prefecture); and Ms. Criste Yaquet (Tokyo).
One more Philippine representative, Ms. Pamela Palma, is set to depart for Japan on Wednesday, August 19. Under the programme, Ms. Palma will be taking on a position as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in Shizuoka Prefecture.
All participants to the programme are expected to stay in Japan for an initial contract period of one year.
Prior to their departure, the participants attended a pre-departure orientation seminar organized by the Japan Information and Culture Center of the Embassy of Japan on Thursday, July 23, 2015, wherein they were given relevant resource materials and information on Japanese society and culture.
The JET Programme was introduced by the Japanese Government in 1987 to promote internationalization among local Japanese communities through cultural exchange activities and foreign language education. Over 60,000 participants from 63 countries around the world have already participated in the programme since its launch.
