(Eagle News) — The police has not monitored any “specific imminent threat” to the Association of Southeast Asian (ASEAN) Summit happening in Manila, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.
In a press briefing, Dela Rosa said that they have done all the security preparations needed to make sure that the ASEAN Summit and the related meetings will be safe and secure.
“Lahat na ginawa namin. Kung meron pa ring magyayari, that is already beyond our control,” he said.
“As far as we are concerned, we are on top of the situation,” he said.
Dela Rosa added that all possible venues, all approaches to the ASEAN venue – whether “by air, by land, and by sea” — are being closely monitored and secured
“Lahat ng possible avenues, all approaches ay atin nang binabantayan,” he said.
“So far, this is very clear, wala tayong namo-monitor na specific imminent threat sa ASEAN Summit,” the PNP chief said.
Around 41,000 personnel will secure the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related meetings in Manila that will happen from April 26 to 29.
Among these security personnel are around 26,000 uniformed police officers and soldiers, and 15,000 force multipliers from 21 government agencies.
This is for the safety and security of all delegates for the April 26 to 29 ASEAN events.
On Sunday, during the send-off ceremonies for the security forces, Dela Rosa said they would do all their best to secure the delegates and the ASEAN meetings.
“Ibuhos natin lahat ngayon,” Dela Rosa said.
Malacañang earlier declared a work suspension for the ASEAN meetings on April 27 and 28.
On April 27, work will be suspended for government offices in Manila, Makati, and Pasay, according to Memorandum Circular 18 issued by Malacañang on Friday.
On April 28, classes and work for government and private offices in Metro Manila will be suspended.
On April 29, local government units and private offices have the option to declare a non-working holiday on April 29.
The 30th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will be happening in Manila from April 26 to 29.
