(Eagle News) — Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles urged the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to start the implementation of the national identification system next year.
Nograles, chair of the House committee on appropriations, said that the agency could tap into the P2-billion budget allocated for the national ID system from the current P3.767-trillion appropriation.
He said this was even if the bicameral conference committee still had to reconcile the Senate and House of Representatives versions of the bill.
“At this point, the enactment of the measure is pretty much a no-brainer given the support of Malacañang behind it. So to reflect the spirit of the proposed law, which is ensuring the convenience of Filipinos, the PSA should look to implement it at the soonest time possible,” he said.
Last week, the Senate approved on third reading its version of the national ID system.
This was months after the House approved its own version.
