As of 8 a.m. today, a total of 205,846 families or 904,110 persons have been affected by Typhoon Nona, of which 15,268 families or 64,957 persons are inside 329 evacuation centers set up by local government units in Regions III, IV-A, IV-B, V, and VIII.
As the lead agency of the Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster under the humanitarian cluster system of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to assist local government units (LGUs) in disaster operations for the remaining evacuees of the typhoon.
DSWD Sec. Corazon Juliano-Soliman said the number of evacuees have significantly decreased from 77,577 families at the height of the typhoon to 15,268 families as local authorities have given the go signal for them to return to their homes, especially in the Bicol Region and in Eastern Visayas.
Sec. Soliman added that more evacuees will be allowed to go home as the weather continues to improve.
She said DSWD disaster response teams continue to coordinate with LGUs to determine other needs of the evacuees and to initiate the implementation of interventions such as Cash-for-Work, Food-for-Work, and Shelter Assistance for the recovery phase. (DSWD)
