PYONGYANG, North Korea (Reuters)–  North Korea’s Ministry of Culture and Russia’s embassy in Pyongyang co-hosted a piano recital on Tuesday (December 27) in the run-up to the New Year.

In a video provided by the North’s official news agency KCNA, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, Han Il Yong and Ma Sin A, students of the Pyongyang Music School No.1 of Kim Won Gyun Conservatory, performed a piano solo and concerto.

The two students performed both North Korean and Russian pieces including ‘The Nutcracker’, KCNA said.

Russia’s Ambassador Alexander Matsegora and North Korea’s Vice Minister of Culture O Yong Chol attended the recital at the Music Hall of the Conservatory.

Russia and North Korea established diplomatic ties in 1948.
