NPA frees abducted cop to show gratitude for peace talks

(Eagle News) — New People’s Army (NPA) rebels released on Friday (August 26) the police officer they abducted last month, as a sign of gratitude for the ongoing peace talks between the government and communist rebels.

Authorities said PO1 Richard Yu was brought by his abductors to Sitio Hitaob, Barangay Awasian, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, at 11:15 a.m., where he was then released.

Supt. Arvin Montenegro, officer-in-charge of Tandag City Police, said the communist rebels freed Yu to show their support for the  peace talks between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front in Oslo, Norway.

Although Yu had no injuries, he was brought for medical checkup to Adela Memorial Hospital where he will undergo tactical briefing.
