(Eagle News)– The New People’s Army’s top finance officer for Mindanao has been arrested, the military said on Saturday, June 2.
The Eastern Mindanao Command said Nerita Calamba de Castro was apprehended during a joint police and military operation in Barangay Ambago in Butuan on Thursday, May 31.
The arrest stems from a warrant issued against her for murder.
Details of the case were not revealed.
According to the military, De Castro was the finance head of the Komisyon Mindanao of the NPA.
President Rodrigo Duterte has urged the government to work on the resumption of peace talks with the rebels.
Peace Secretary Jesus Dureza said, however, that for an “enabling environment” should be present for the peace talks to resume.
