NTC revokes registration of Globe content provider due to missing load

(Eagle News) — The National Telecommunications Commission on Monday, April 23 cancelled the certificate of registration of Got Deals Mobile Inc., a mobile content provider of Globe Telecom Inc., due to theft of prepaid load.

The move was made after a complaint filed by one of its consumers who reported missing loads and hidden charges made by Globe.

NTC Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios announced the cancellation during the Senate Committee on science and technology hearing on the alleged theft and missing loads of prepaid subscribers.

Cabarios also said that the recent decision was made due to almost 4,000 complaints that the agency had received from Globe consumers.

The NTC said it already ordered the Globe Telecom to implement strict measures to ensure that this incident won’t happen again.

The order was triggered by a complaint filed by Feanne Hontiveros Mauricio who narrated her complaint in a Facebook post regarding Globe’s alleged “load theft.” She complained that she had been charged an additional five pesos several times every day although she had not subscribed to any of the promos on alleged value-added service.

“On the issue of the one that was tackled last time, on the complaint filed by Freanne, the Commission has revoked the certificate of registration of Got Deals and that includes all including that of Smart so they can’t offer services anymore,” Cabarios said.

The NTC also required telecommunication companies (telcos) to have a stringent “opt-in” and verification system to prevent unauthorized load deductions.

Value-added service (VAS) providers offer services such as infotext, ringtones and wallpapers, which are apart from the standard calls and text or SMS messages.
