(Eagle News) — Opposition lawmakers are seeking a probe into the Samar misencounter that led to six policemen killed.
In filing House Resolution 1983, ACT-Teachers Reps. Antonio Tinio and France Castro, Gabriela Reps. Emmi de Jesus and Arlene Brosas, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate, Anakpawis Rep. Ariel Casilao, and Kabataan Rep. Sarah Elago noted what they said were the fears of a whitewash in the investigation of the family of the slain policemen.
“The families of the victims expressed their fears of a cover up or a white wash as President Rodrigo Duterte said that ‘nobody wanted it to happen’ and this was caused by ‘Murphy’s Law’,” they said.
The misencounter between the members of the 805th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion e and the 87th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in Sta. Rita took place on June 25.
President Rodrigo Duterte has claimed responsibility for the incident, saying he was the commander-in-chief.
