(Eagle News) – The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday.
PAGASA said the tropical depression spotted 1,740 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.
Moving west northwest, it is expected to enter PAR between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
The tropical depression would be named “Caloy” once it enters PAR.
PAGASA said the weather disturbance has no direct effect on any part of the country at the moment.
The weather bureau predicted it could develop into a tropical storm by Monday morning, but said it is less likely to make landfall on any part of the country due to its recurving track.
