(Eagle News) — The weather state bureau on Sunday, April 22 warned the public of hotter weather this week, even as it recorded a dangerous heat index of up to 47.7 degree Celsius in Sangley Point in Cavite.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the hotter weather was due to the ridge of high pressure area or the peak of summer season in the country.
PAGASA said it is even expecting a heat index of up to a dangerous 49 degrees Celsius.
The heat index or the human discomfort index is the temperature felt by the body based on air temperature and humidity.
A temperature of 37 degrees Celsius is the normal body temperature. A heat index of at least 41 degrees Celsius is already considered a dangerous level.
On Sunday, April 22, the town of Sangley Point in the province of Cavite City experienced the highest heat index of 47.7 degrees Celsius.
A high heat index was also recorded at San Jose City, Occidental Mindoro; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Cuyo, Palawan; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; Casiguran, Aurora; Daet, Camarines Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecjia; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and Zamboanga City.
