Some 18,000 policemen will be deployed nationwide for the school opening next week. At least 2,500 will be deployed in Metro Manila alone. The police also gave some safety tips for student and their parents, particularly to avoid robbers, kidnappers and other criminals.

8 women, locked inside a room by their employer, die in Pasay City fire
A commercial/residential building in Pasay City was gutted by fire dawn Friday, May 30, with eight recorded dead because the owner locked the employees inside the building. All the fatalities were women who were reportedly locked inside their room by their Filipino-Chinese employer during the night. Firemen found the dead women inside the locked room. They apparently died from suffocation. Nine other women employees were able to escape. Authorities are now investigating the incident.
Prices of meat products rise

Php 8.50 minimum fare starts on June 14
From Php 8, the minimum fare will now be Php 8.50 for the first four kilometers and an additional 10 centavos for the succeeding kilometers. The fare increase is approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
