(Eagle News) — Malacañang asked resort owners in Boracay Island to advance the 13th month pay of the employees affected by the six-month Boracay closure.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr., said he suggested this to establishment owners on their last Cabinet meeting.
Roque said some owners had already agreed to the suggestion of giving advance 13th month pay to their employees.
Some 35,000 employees will be reportedly affected by the six-month closure and rehabilitation of Boracay which will start on Thursday, April 26.
“Ang crucial lang is while hindi pa tapos iyong vetting on who’s going to get all the government assistance ay mayroong stop-gap measure din iyong mga workers ‘no. Pero voluntary naman ito sa employers,” he said.
“This was a suggestion of which they favorably received. I don’t know how they’re actually going to implement it,” he added.
