Palace denies involvement in Mayor Binay’s suspension

Malacañang denies that they are behind the decision to suspend Makati Mayor Junjun Binay and 15 other Makati City Hall officials.

The Ombudsman had ordered Binay’s six-month suspension due to the issue of overpricing of Makati City Hall Building 2.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that the Palace will not meddle with the Ombudsman’s decision since the latter is an independent body.

Lacierda added that it is the duty of the Ombudsman to investigate and suspend government officials involved in corrupt practices and that it is part of their normative procedure.

Lacierda made the statement in defense against the accusations hurled by the Binay camp against the Palace and its alleged involvement in the investigations against the Binay family.
