(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte is slated to meet with officials of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System on Tuesday, March 19.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the meeting to discuss the response of the water regulator to the water shortage in recent days was scheduled at 6:30 p.m.
It was unclear if officials from the Manila Water Co., whose customers were affected by the shortage, would be present in the meeting.
On Friday, March 15, President Duterte ordered the MWSS to demand from Manila Water the release of 150 days worth of water to temporarily address the water shortage affecting some customers in Metro Manila and in nearby provinces.
Over the weekend, MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velaso said the agency and concessionaires Manila Water, Maynilad and Bulacan Bulk Water would exert best efforts to solve the water shortage in 150 days.
He also laid down measures he said would be undertaken to ensure the water shortage would no longer be repeated.
Manila Water has apologized for the water shortage, which it blamed on the declining levels of La Mesa dam.
