(Eagle News) — The Palace on Friday extended its condolences to the family and friends of National Artist Napoleon Abueva, who passed away at 88 years old.
“We join the entire nation in mourning the passing of an exemplary artist,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
He said Abueva, who was the youngest national artist awardee at 46 years old, “paved the way for the recognition of authentic Filipino talent in the global art scene, with his works installed in different museums both here and abroad.”
Some of Abueva’s works include Kaganapan, the Sunburst at the Manila Peninsula, and the bronze figure of Teodoro M. Kalaw in front of the National Library, among others.
“He will be forever be honored as a renowned virtuoso whom future generations of Filipino artists will look up to,” he said.
