Palace hopes telcos will exert best efforts to improve citizens’ complaint hotline

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, Feb. 28, expressed hope telecommunications companies would exert their best efforts to improve the citizens’ complaint hotline 8888.

Ina statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo noted Executive Order No. 6, which institutionalized the hotline to allow members of the public to air their complaints about government in general, was among the first executive orders issued by the President.

“Before the issuance of Executive Order No. 6, public avenues for redress of grievances were largely fragmented among different government agencies and the public was left guessing as to whom to contact and request for an update as regards the status of their complaints. Thus, the President , ” he said.

Panelo said the President “envisioned the creation of an integrated system for the consolidation, monitoring and addressing of complaints that would be accessible to every Filipino 24/7, which is prompt and responsive,” noting that the hotline was under the direct supervision of the Office of the President.

He said Duterte would be disappointed if the hotline would not be accessible to Filipinos.

Earlier, Duterte threatened to close down PLDT if it did not add trunklines to the hotline.

In response, PLDT vowed to accede to the President’s request.
