MANILA, Philippines — The Palace mourns the death of former Presidential Spokesperson Fernando “Jerry” Barican.
“We mourn the passing of former presidential spokesperson Fernando Jerry Barican, who passed away last Friday evening. We join the nation in expressing our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones,” said Presidential Communication Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., in a radio interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday.
“Tayo po ay naging mapalad na makilala at makasama si Atty. Barican bilang student activist po noong kapanahunan ng First Quarter Storm noong early 1970s sa Pamantasan ng Pilipinas (University of the Philippines), na kung saan siya ay nagsilbi rin bilang chairman ng UP Student Council,” said Coloma
Barican serves as spokesperson to former President Joseph Estrada. He was comatose at the Makati Medical Center for about a month before his death.
“Siya po ay isa rin sa mga nadetine noong panahon ng Martial Law. Siya ay nagsilbi bilang spokesperson ni dating Pangulong Joseph Ejercito Estrada at Board Member ng Development Bank of the Philippines,” Coloma added. PND
