Palace not worried about lower public ratings on President Duterte fulfilling campaign promise

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Malacañang is not worried about the result of the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations, showing lower expectations on the part of the public regarding President Duterte fulfilling all of his campaign promises.

In the latest survey conducted by the SWS, the results showed that the number of Filipinos who expect President Rodrigo Duterte to fulfill most or all of his promises has fallen to 35 percent from 63 percent in 2016.

The 35 percent rating consists of 8 percent saying that the President can fulfill “all or nearly all,” and 27 percent saying that he can fulfill “most” of his promises.

The September 2017 poll also revealed that 57 percent expected him to fulfill only “a few” promises, while six percent see him fulfilling “none, or almost none” of his promises.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that it is only natural for an incumbent President to suffer fluctuating trust ratings.

“We find nothing unusual in the drop of those who expect that he would fulfill his promises as the euphoria of the elections normally wears off after a year in office and people become more realistic on what the government can deliver. This has been the trend in previous administrations,” Roque said in a statement.

“What matters is Filipinos remain satisfied when they gave the current administration a ‘very good’ overall performance rating at +58, as reflected in the same survey,” he added.

Roque also said that the President is still working to deliver on his campaign promises.

“The President and members of his Cabinet would continue to work hard in bringing comfortable life for all where citizens feel safe and secure under a trustworthy government,” he said.

The survey was conducted on September 23-27, 2017 among 1,500 respondents nationwide.
