(Eagle News) — Respect the Supreme Court.
The Palace had this to say on Friday, May 11, after the Supreme Court decided to nullify the appointment of Maria Lourdes Sereno as Chief Justice.
“Let us respect its decision granting the quo warranto petition as the proper remedy and the quo warranto petition ruling against Chief Justice Sereno,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
According to Roque, the SC was “duty-bound to uphold the Constitution.”
The court ruling therefore, he said, “is likewise an assertion of the supremacy of the fundamental law of the land.”
“The high court has spoken,” he said.
Voting 8-6, the SC en banc voted to grant Solicitor General Jose Calida’s quo warranto petition against Sereno.
She is also facing an impeachment complaint in Congress.
