Palace says it respects BI decision affirming order for Australian nun Fox to leave PHL

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Wednesday, May 23, said it respects the decision of the Bureau of Immigration affirming its earlier order for Australian nun Patricia Fox to leave the country.

“That’s the law. Dura lex sed lex (the law may be harsh but it is the law),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

In the May 17 order, the BI junked Fox’s appeal of the agency’s decision to forfeit her missionary visa for lack of merit, and ordered Fox to leave the country within 30 days upon receipt of the decision.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente first announced the forfeiture of Fox’s visa after the BI’s board of commissioners (BOC), which he chairs, found she “engaged in activities that are not allowed under the terms and conditions of her visa.”

Showing pictures, immigration authorities accused her of engaging in “partisan political activities” when she attended rallies in the country.

In her appeal, Fox said she was only attending the rally as part of her missionary work.
