(Eagle News)–The Palace on Tuesday, Feb. 12, called on candidates in the upcoming elections to observe Commission on Elections rules and regulations as the campaign period kicked off for bets running for national posts.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo issued the reminder as he gave the assurance President Rodrigo Duterte himself would not be using government resources in endorsing candidates.
He said Duterte would only give his “verbal endorsement” on select candidates.
“Every government, every administration always appeals to all the candidates to strictly observe the election laws. We have to have a clean, honest, fair, credible elections,” Panelo said.
The campaign period for senatorial bets and party-list bets, and for the candidates for the remaning posts, will run until May 11.
Earlier, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez called out some senatorial and party-list bets for violating Comelec rules on campaign materials.
Some of those he called out were the camps of Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Sonny Angara, Bongo Go, Buhay party-list and PBA party-list.
