Pangilinan urges Comelec to give voters an additional week to register for 2019 polls

(Eagle News) — Senator Kiko Pangilinan on Friday, Sept. 28, urged the Commission on Elections to extend voter registration for the 2019 elections by one more week.

Pangilinan made the call after Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said registration for the polls would end on Saturday, Sept. 29.

“We urge the Comelec to give the Filipinos one more week to register and be given the opportunity to exercise their right in choosing the country’s next leaders,” Pangilinan said.

Pangilinan noted that for “communities that have suffered devastation and whose lives have been put in peril due to the natural calamities” in particular, this would be a “humanitarian act.”

Registration period for the 2019 elections started on July 2.
