ENGLAND, United Kingdom (Reuters) — Paralyzed fundraiser Claire Lomas, completed 10 miles in 24 hours at the Simplyhealth Great South Run event in Portsmouth on Monday (October 23), ten years after a riding accident left her paralyzed from the chest down.
Video and photographs released by the Simplyhealth Great South Run show Lomas walking the distance with the aid of a ‘bionic’ Rewalk suit and crossing the finish line with a smile on her face as the crowds cheer her on.
The 37-year-old began her walk on Sunday (October 22) alongside 20,000 other runners and kept going through the night to complete the ‘#10in24’ challenge organized by Simplyhealth Great South Run. So far, she has raised more than £500,000 for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.
In 2012 Lomas became the first person ever to complete a marathon wearing the ReWalk suit and in 2016 she finished the Simplyhealth Great North Run course in five days while 16 weeks pregnant.
