PBBM signs laws upgrading status of two SUCs

Laws establishing a College of Medicine in at least four SUCs also signed

(Eagle News)–President Bongbong Marcos has signed new laws upgrading the status of two state universities and establishing a College of Medicine in at least four.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, with the signing of Republic Act No. 11968, the San Isidro Satellite campus of the Leyte Normal University (LNU) in San Isidro, Leyte will now be a regular campus and will be referred to as LNU-San Isidro Campus.

The Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU)-Bagac Extension Campus in Bagac, Bataan, meanwhile, is also now a regular campus known as BPSU-Bagac Campus under the recently signed RA No. 11969.

RA No. 11970, RA No. 11971, RA No. 11972, and RA No. 11974, meanwhile, established a College of Medicine in the following state universities, respectively:

  • Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet
  • Southern Luzon State University in Lucban, Quezon
  • University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman, Northern Samar
  • Visayas State University in Baybay, Leyte

This means the institutions can now offer a Doctor of Medicine Program, including an Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine Program, to “develop a corps of professional physicians and help strengthen the country’s healthcare system,” the PCO said.

The PCO said the President also signed was RA No. 11973, which establishes a College of Veterinary Medicine in Bicol University, Ligao City, Albay to “produce a corps of professional veterinary physicians who are adept in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control of animal diseases, including terrestrial and aquatic animals.”

According to the PCO, all these new laws were signed on December 20.
