PDEA says more than 3,600 barangays “drug-cleared”

(Eagle News) – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said that 3,677 of the total 42,036 barangays in the country have been cleared of illegal drugs.

According to PDEA Director General Isidro Lapeña, the barangays who have been given the “Drug-cleared status” were certified by the members of the Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug-clearing Program.

Before a barangay can be declared drug-free, it should pass the probe of the committee which checks if a certain barangay is really free of illegal drug activities.

Based on the PDEA’s data, 47.83 percent of total barangays in the county are “drug-affected.”  Of this, 68.5 percent are considered “slightly affected,” 30.4 percent are considered “moderately affected,” while 1 percent of this is considered “seriously affected.”
