PDEA to put up anti-drug trafficking units in regional offices

(Eagle News) – To prevent drug trafficking in the country, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will build Seaport Interdiction Units in all its regional offices throughout the country.

According to PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña, the action is based on memorandum circular no. 2017-030 which was signed on July 24, 2017.

The SIU will also be in charge of investigating any dock-related activities, including the information processing of passengers and shipping companies that may enable the illegal entry of drugs or raw materials inside the country.

In 2008, 744 kilograms of shabu were found in Subic, Zambales while 433 kilos of shabu were recovered in 2014.

Another floating shabu laboratory was discovered and destroyed in the ocean near Zambales.
