Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña is sworn in as the acting Makati City mayor after the suspension order against Mayor Junjun Binay had been served.
Peña swore before Fiscal Billy Evangelista at Barangay Poblacion, Makati City.
The acting mayor was warmly met by his supporters.
This is the first time since 1986 that a Binay clan outsider had become a mayor in Makati.
Meanwhile, Binay supporters had camped outside the Makati City Hall as the acting mayor appealed to them to leave the city hall grounds.
Binay is suspended for six months while the investigation on the alleged overpriced Makati City continues.
