The Presidential Electoral Tribunal has fined the parties and lawyers of Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Bongbong Marcos P50,000 each.

In a Twitter post, the PET said this was for violation of the sub judice rule in connection with the ongoing manual recount.

The recount stems from the electoral protest filed by Marcos against Robredo, whom he accused of cheating in the 2016 vice presidential elections.

In February, the PET ordered Robredo and Marcos to refrain from releasing sensitive information in violation of the sub judice rule with the recount about to start.

This was to ensure there would be no prejudgement on the part of the court, which would then only rule based on evidence.

The PET reiterated its order in March.

But in April, the PET issued a show-cause order against the two camps and asked why they should not be cited in contempt for their repeated statements on the recount.
