Philippines so far sixth out of 10 countries in Kuala Lumpur SEA Games

(Eagle News) – The Philippines is ranked sixth out of the 10 ASEAN countries based on the medal tally as of 10 p.m. August 21, with a haul of three gold, six silver and six bronze medals so far.

The country got two of their gold medals on Monday, August 21, one each in the men’s and women’s triathlon with by Nico Bryan Huelgas and Kim Mangrobang leading their respective events.

Huelgas, who also won the triathlon event in Singapore in 2015, got the gold in the men’s triathlon in Kuala Lumpur with a time of 1:59:30.

Another Filipino triathlete, John Chicano, won the silver, in the same event.

Mangrobang finished first in the women’s triathlon, with another Filipina triathlete, Claire Adorna winning the silver medal.

On Saturday, August 19, the Philippines bagged its first gold medal with former Rio Olympics athlete Mary Joy Tabal, winning the marathon event, with a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes and 24 seconds.

As of late Monday night, August 21, the third day of the ongoing SEA Games, the Philippines got 15 medals in all.

Host country Malaysia leads the SEA games with a medal haul of 28 golds, 19 silver and 15 bronze — or 58 medals in all. It is followed by Singapore with 13 gold, 13 silver and 11 bronze medals; Vietnam with eight gold, five silver and nine bronze medals; Indonesia with seven gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze medals; and Thailand with six gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals.
