QUEZON CIty, Philippines – President-elect Rodrigo Duterte said that the Philippines will not depend on the United States of America to defend Philippine interest in the West Philippine Sea. Duterte plans to promote multilateral talks between affected countries to resolve the issue. He also asked China to respect the 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone as laid down by international law. Duterte added that he is waiting for the decision of the international arbitral tribunal before taking the necessary steps.
