PHIVOLCS and MMDA meet to prepare for “the big one”

MANILA, Philippines – The Malacañang supports the plan for a metro-wide shutdown in preparation of “the big one” – the strong earthquake expected to occur in the near future in areas located in the Valley Fault System.

In response to this, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct meetings regarding the said metro-wide shutdown.

Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS warned the public against those unscrupulous businessmen who were selling copies of the map of the Valley Fault System, saying that said map is not for sale and is actually available for free download online.

The Department on Education (DOE), on the other hand, also updated its list of schools near the Valley Fault System.
