PHIVOLCS: Short-lived phreatic event monitored at Taal

(Eagle News)–A short-lived phreatic event was monitored at Taal on Thursday, May 16.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the Main Crater Observation Station monitored the event at the volcano, which remains on alert level 1, at 8:54 a.m.

PHIVOLCS said the event lasted for three minutes and produced a 300-meter steam plume.

In a separate advisory, PHIVOLCS said the  ban on the entry into the Permanent Danger Zone should remain in place.

Pilots were advised against flying close to the volcano.
