PHL Embassy in New Zealand, POLO in Australia conduct consultations on OFW welfare

-Consultations in preparation for establishment of PHL overseas labor office in New Zealand

 

EBC New Zealand correspondent Greg Basa reports about the consultations with overseas Filipino workers conducted by the Philippine embassy in New Zealand, with the help of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Australia.

Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus Domingo said that the Philippine embassy in New Zealand is working to have a Philippine  overseas labor office (POLO) to be established within the year.

Filipinos in New Zealand welcomed this move.

Ambassador Domingo said that Labor Attache Cynthia Lamban is already scouting for the venue of the POLO in New Zealand.

He said the consultations were “very fruitful.”

Domingo said that their discussions with Lamban and the OFWs

He said that they discussed how to better disseminate information needed by the OFWs and “how to better protect” them.

“We are so happy that finally POLO is arriving in New Zealand.  We need their help desperately to address  issues of OFWs in the entire New Zealand archipelago,” said Alicat Lozano, a Filipino community leader in New Zealand.

Labor attache Lamban commended the initiative of the Philippine Embassy in New Zealand to hold the consultations with the OFW leaders.
