QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — The government will be forced to file a case against Sanofi Pasteur if the pharmaceutical giant will not grant a full P3.5 billion refund of the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine purchase, including payment for damages from the French pharmaceutical firm.
Sanofi Pasteur already paid Php 1.16 billion for the unused Dengvaxia vaccine.
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III had earlier urged the Department of Health (DOH) to demand a full refund instead of just a P1.2-billion refund for the unused Dengvaxia vaccine.
Pimental said that Sanofi should make a full refund because it had failed to deliver on its promise that Dengvaxia is totally safe and effective.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that he gave Sanofi Pasteur fifteen days or until February 10 to settle the issue and if the pharmaceutical company will not comply, the government will file a case in order to protect public funds.
