(Eagle News)–The Philippines and Kuwait have signed the memorandum of agreement on the protection of Overseas Filipino Workers in the Middle Eastern country.

This was revealed by the Department of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Friday, May 11.

It was Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and his  Kuwaiti counterpart who signed the agreement which, among others, granted OFWs at least one day-off, and stipulated that their passports would no longer be confiscated by their employers.

The signing of the agreement comes following strained relations between the two countries over a Philippine embassy rescue of distressed OFWs Kuwait deemed illegal.

Kuwait recalled its Manila representative and expelled Philippine ambassador Renato Villa over the incident.
