PHL ranks 12th among world’s top Internet users

(Eagle News) – With an estimated 67 million Filipinos who are active in social media and the internet, the Philippines grabbed the 12th spot worldwide in terms of having the highest number of Internet users, according to the latest Internet World Stats (IWS) report.

The report showed that the Philippines went two notches higher from its previous 15th place last year, after it noted that about 63 percent of the overall population (67 million out of 104 million Filipinos) are social media savvy and often surf the Web despite having slow Internet speed.

China topped the list with 772 million Internet users out of its over 1 billion citizens; India came in second with 462 million users; and the United States ranked third having 312 million users.

This was followed by Brazil in 4th place with 149,057,635 internet users, Indonesia in 5th place with 143,260,000 internet users, Japan in 6th place with 118,626,672 internet users, Russia in 7th place with 109,552,842 internet users, Nigeria in 8th place with 98,391,456 internet users, Mexico in 9th place with 85,000,000 internet users, and Bangladesh in 10th place with 80,483,000 total internet users.

The IWS report is based on data from the International Telecommunications Union and Facebook Incorporated by country.
