(Eagle News) — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released the special scented stamps featuring five collections of floral paintings done by President Cory Aquino herself in time for the commemoration of her sixth death anniversary on Saturday, August 1.
This is the second series of the special scented stamps featuring five collections of floral paintings done by the late President.
Presidential sisters Maria Elena “Ballsy” Aquino-Cruz and Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Aquino-Abellada attended the recent launching of this second series of limited edition special scented stamps and souvenir sheet, held at Sofitel Hotel- Bulong Pulungan Forum which was hosted by Mrs. Aquino’s former spokesperson and friend,Deedee Siytangco.
“Through the stamps we hope that the lives that President Cory has touched will continue to be inspired by hermemory not only of her admirable love for this country but also for her strong qualities as a mother and wife,” Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
Dela Cruz also revealed that President Cory is the only person in the history of the posts issued with eleven (11) stamps.
“We are all happy to see, the outcome of that artistic, hidden talent she obviously had for her to be able to produce all these paintings. PHLPost will always be honored to be part of this”, she said.
Sharing their experiences and memorable stories with “Tita Cory” are her painting instructor Jeffrey Consumo, classmates’ Teena Sarino and PEZA Director General Lilia De Lima, and friends who include MetroBankFoundation Chairman Aniceto Sobrepeña, and People Asia Editor Joane Rae Ramirez.
The Aquino sisters lent their collections of artworks on the second series of different flowers which is the favorite subject of Tita Cory in her paintings.
Last year’s first series of scented stamps featuring Aquino’s paintings was among the top selling stamps of PHLPost. The said stamp designs were based on the paintings lent by the late President’s friends including businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, Tina Sarino, wife of PHLPost Chairman Cesar Sarino, PEZA DirectorGeneral Lilia De Lima, Philippine Star President and CEO Miguel Belmonte, and Metrobank Chairman GeorgeTy.
About 400,000 copies in four designs of the “block of four” special scented stamps were printed using imported unwatermarked paper and floral scented ink. The stamps are sold at P30.00 per piece. PHLPost has also printed 50,000 copies of the souvenir sheet at P120 each.
The stamps and official first day cover are now available at the Post Shop, Postage and Philatelic Division locatedat the Manila Central Post Office, all area offices, and post offices nationwide.
