(Eagle News)– The Philippine Navy has deployed its newest and largest vessel — BRP Tarlac– to lead the naval blockade amidst reports of plans of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) escaping via Sulu Sea.
BRP Tarlac will serve as the command and control ship of the navy against the terrorists.
The Navy has yet to encounter any ASG members but is preparing for any actions in case ASG receives reinforcements from nearby Basilan province.
According to the Navy, they will pursue any suspicious sea vessel to check its cargo and passengers. They can also capture any suspicious vessel without any necessary documents.
BRP Tarlac was added to the arsenal of Philippine Navy in June this year.
The ship has modern navigation and surface search radar, air search radar, an electronic warfare system, electro-optical fire control system and combat management system.
