(Eagle News) — PDP-Laban president Koko Pimentel on Thursday, Aug. 2, said the ruling party was “healthy” and in its “golden age.”
Pimentel gave the assurance during a top-level meeting of the party in Quezon City, days after a faction claimed they “elected” their own set of party leaders–Rogelio Garcia of Region 12 and Willy Talag of Metro Manila as president and secretary-general, respectively.
This was after Pimentel recently stepped down as Senate President, and Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, PDP-Laban secretary-general, was ousted as House Speaker.
Pimentel has said he was studying what action to take against the “rogue” party members for the “unauthorized use” of the party name.
“Huwag kayong magpaapekto sa mga concerted attacks against our party. Talagang ganyan po kasi political season na,” he said.
“This is a camaraderie, a celebration. (For other concerns), we will have a specialized meeting soon. There will be no elections or nominations for now,” he added.
In attendance were Alvarez and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, who is also the party vice chair.
