(Eagle News) — Senate President Koko Pimentel on Tuesday said the Upper House was “80 to 90” percent ready with its rules if the venue for impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is transferred there.
In a radio interview, Pimentel said he still has a “series of meetings” before the draft of the rules is finalized.
“Kung ano ang nangyari (sa impeachment trial nina) Chief Justice Renato Corona,President Joseph Estrada, kung may rule na hindi maganda ang pagkasulat o malabo, ayusin natin para klaro na,” he said, without elaborating.
He said the senators have also had their robes made for the proceedings.
Even Senator Leila de Lima, he said, has one.
As for Sereno, Pimentel said she was not required to attend the hearings.
“Strategy na niya kung mag-witness stand pero subject to cross examimnation siya. Strategy na niya ‘yun,” he said.
“Kung siya ay makahanap ng paraan na makaaattend counted naman talaga siya sa bilang ng senador. Kailangan physically present ka para bumoto. Basta mahanap niya ng paraan, walang problema,” he said.
