PNP: 292 candidates in Abra backed out from barangay, SK polls 2023

(Eagle News) — Over 200 candidates in Abra have backed out from the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the Philippine National Police said.

According to the PNP, apart from the 292 candidates, several teachers also backed out as electoral board members.

They were reportedly replaced with 39 police personnel who came from outside the province.

On Oct. 18, the Commission on Elections said it received a report that a candidate for barangay councilor in Abra was shot dead.

The Comelec also revealed it had been receiving reports on election-related issues in Abra, specifically in Bucay.

Over 40 Abra barangays were endorsed as areas of concern for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
