PNP: 60 rogue cops nabbed by counter-intel task force since last year

(Eagle News) — Around 60 policemen implicated in various illegal activities have been arrested by the national police’s Counter-Intelligence Task Force since it started operations last year.

In a statement, PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said the arrested policemen were apprehended in 24 separate operations.

“This strong-arm effort of CITF complements the internal reform program of the PNP that has resulted in the dismissal of 398 police personnel since 2016 for various administrative offenses,” Bulalacao said.

According to the PNP spokesperson, as of Feb. 7, 2017, the CITF led by Supt. Jose Chiquito Malayo has received 10,246 complaints via text messages and phone calls.

The complaints included 309 protection rackets, 75 “hulidap”cases,  19 physical abuse cases, 13 illegal logging cases, six kidnapping cases, four gun-running cases, 262 extortion cases, 238 drug-related cases, 161 illegal gambling cases, and 383 other illegal activities.

Over 400–or 471—complaints came from the National Capital Region; 189 from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon; 128 from Central Luzon; and 84 from Central Visayas.
