Newly installed Philippine National Police Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Monday, April 23, reminded policemen to follow even the simplest rules, or else they would be sanctioned.

He said policemen should wear helmets, refrain from texting on the streets while on duty, and should entertain complainants in the police stations.

“Kapag merong nagsabi sa atin na yung isang complainant or kababayan natin pumunta sa isang istasyon at sinagot ng ating mga pulis na walang gas, imbestigador, chief of police, tanggal lahat yan and we will investigate them and minimum diyan suspension,” he said.

He said as part of his aim of internal cleansing, he has also instructed the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service to “expedite all administrative cases.”

“Hindi lang naman para masuspinde sila [o] ma-dismiss sila…Yung talagang alam naman natin na may kasalanan, we have to be fast really kung talagang kailangan suspendihin,  suspendihin na namin, kung kailangan i-dismiss sa serbisyo, idi-dismiss na natin outright,” he said.

“Because discipline shall be the hallmark of my administration, we will address this concern with utmost urgency– and forcefully if necessary,” he added.

Albayalde assumed the PNP’s highest-ranking post on April 19, following the retirement of Ronald dela Rosa.

Before he assumed the post, Albayalde was the National Capital Region Police Office chief.

He was known to make the rounds even in the wee hours of the morning, and to scold his men whom he catches sleeping or not in proper uniform.
