Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde confirmed the reports of massive vote-buying.
“Tayo po, hindi natin tino-tolerate yan,” Agbayalde said.
According to him, the PNP already arrested 400 people engaged in vote-buying nationwide.
The arrests include Quezon City mayoral candidate Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo who was arrested on the eve of the elections for alleged vote-buying, obstruction of justice and other offenses.
“No less than the President gave us a directive to create task forces in the different provinces to focus on vote-buying incidents,” the PNP Chief said.
General Albayalde said that nobody is above the law and that a congressman was already arrested.
However, Albayalde said they cannot prevent it on a wider scale as the PNP is already deployed in various precincts and polling centers nationwide.
“Out of 190,000 policemen, 150,000 are now deployed in the polling centers. The ones who are reacting on vote-buying now are our quick reaction forces,” Albayalde said.
“Binuksan natin kanina yung National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC) at wala naman pong naging aberya kaninang umaga,” he said.
However, he noted two explosions in Cotabato and Maguindanao areas on the eve of the elections but there were no casualties as the EIDs exploded in vacant lots.
“Sa NCR ay maayos at malinis. Wala nang nagbibigay ng leaflets sa gates ng mga polling centers,” Albayalde said.
