Trece Martires, Cavite Mayor Melandres De Sagun will be among those to be invited for questioning in the investigation into the killing of Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan on Saturday, July 7.
Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, Calabarzon regional director, noted, however, that De Sagun, who is abroad, was not considered a person of interest and that it was but natural he be invited.
“Incumbent mayor siya kaya..inherent na makunan ng konting info regarding sa incident. Walang kaibahan yan pag namatay ang pulis, unang tinatanong ay chief of police,” he said.
According to Carranza, the police would like to determine the political scenario in Trece Martires from the mayor.
Carranza made the statement as he announced the police had set aside the business and illegal drugs angles.
He noted that Lubagan had no business rivals, and that he was not included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s narco-list.
According to Carranza, Lubagan and De Sagun, who are both on their last terms, were running mates under the UNA party-list in 2016.
Last Friday, he said Lubagan made an initial statement he would be running for mayor of Trece Martires.
“Alam niyo sa political (scene), ang everyday climate nagbabago depende sa kanilang pananaw,” he said.
Lubigan and his driver were killed after the vehicle he was riding was fired at by still-unidentified men who were on board another vehicle.
Another person was critically injured.
