(Eagle News) – The Philippine National Police welcomed the appointment of Police Director Oscar Albayalde as their new chief, as the whole police force vowed to give full support to him.
“The PNP welcomes the appointment of PDIR Oscar Albayalde as incoming CPNP (chief PNP), as announced by the President in his speech in Malacañang during the awarding of Gawad Saka 2017,” the PNP said in a statement.
“The 190,000 strong PNP uniformed and non-uniformed personnel will give its full support to his leadership. His proven track-record of service assures us that the policies of the government relative to public order and safety will be sustained,” it said.
The PNP statement was issued moments after President Rodrigo Duterte announced the name of Albayalde as the new “PNP chief” to take the place of Police Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa when he retires on April 24.
Dela Rosa, whose term had been extended by the President for three months, or until April 21, recommended Albayalde to be his replacement.
Interviewed after the President made his announcement, Albayalde said he was very elated and thankful for the trust and confidence that both President Duterte and retiring PNP chief Dela Rosa had given to him.
“Siyempre, very very much elated at thankful unang unang sa Diyos, sa Presidente at kay chief PNP for giving the trust and confidence in me. Rest assured that I will not betray their trust and confidence na ibinigay nila sa kin. Yun ang maipapangako ko sa kanila,” Albayalde said.
He said he would continue to work to support the President’s advocacy, including the war on drugs and criminality, and the programs to
“Magtatrabaho pa rin ako, I will continue to work with the President, support his advocacy especially yung pagbabago na gusto ng president. Yun ang pinapangako ko,” he said.
“Thank you to the President really. Wala akong masabi kundi maraming maraming salamat, I will continue to serve the Filipino people,” he added.
Albayalde has been heading the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) before his name was announced by Duterte as the next PNP chief.
He is 54 years old, and will turn 55 in November. He is set to retire on November 8, 2019 when he reaches the mandatory age of 56.

He thanked his “mistah” PNP chief Dela Rosa for his recommendation for him to be the next PNP chief. Albayalde and Dela Rosa both belonged to the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986.
“I would like to thank him sa kanyang suporta. Hindi niya alam na malaking bagay yung pag-e-endorse nya sa akin sa ating Presidente. So I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart, at ibinigay din niya ying tiwala nya sa akin, so again, I will not betray his trust and confidence,” he said. (Eagle News Service)
