PNP8 stands firm on anti-drug campaign as surrenderees increased to 17, 000

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Aug 18(PIA) – While police authorities stand firm on the campaign against illegal drugs, the Philippine National Police in Eastern Visayas urges public’s support to eliminate  this menace in the society.

This, as the country celebrates the National Crime Prevention Week from September 1-7 this year. During the “Panginsayod ha PIA” held today at PIA regional office 8, PNP8 Spokesperson, Senior Police Inspector Ma. Bella Rentuaya emphasized the importance of coordination between the police and the communities. “At this point we want to get the support of the public through a massive “Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya” particularly on the intensified implementation of the “double barrel.”

The official said that the anti-drug campaign not only focuses on civilians but also those uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the PNP who are involved into illegal drugs as part of its internal cleansing.

To date, close to 17, 000 drug users and pushers have voluntarily surrendered to police authorities in the region where most of these are self-confessed. Of the said figure, 1, 750 are pushers, 15, 240 are users and 601of these are minors.(PIA-8/Sol Alarcon)
