Police identify suspects in killing of Bohol town mayor

(Eagle News) — Police have identified the suspects in the killing of Buenavista, Bohol Mayor Ronald Tirol.

In an interview over GMA’s Balitanghali on Monday, May 28, Chief Inspector Rully Lauron, chief of police of Buenavista Police Station, refused to give the identities of the supposed gunmen, but noted they were known “hired killers” in the province.

He said that although there were reports there were six gunmen, the mayor’s bodyguards themselves confirmed that there were only three when they responded to the scene.

The three, he said, will face criminal charges.

He said the police were also trying to determine the identity of the brains behind the attack.

Tirol was shot in a cockpit in Tagbilaran on Sunday, May 27, around 3 p.m.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Police have yet to establish the motive.

Tirol was the son of the late Buenavista Mayor Leandro Tirol and former Buenavista Mayor Elsa Tirol.
