President Benigno S. Aquino III will visit today, December 23 the town of Pinamalayan and conduct aerial inspection of other areas badly hit by Typhoon Nona in Oriental Mindoro.
OrMin Governor Alfonso V. Umali will received the President upon arrival and briefed him on the extent of the damage in the province.
Pinamalayan bore the brunt of the typhoon with about 15,800 families evacuated before and during the height of typhoon Nona. Three persons were reported dead and 14,526 houses were damaged either totally and partially.
The entire province of Oriental Mindoro is under state of calamity.
The President will lead the distribution of food packs to typhoon victims in Pinamalayan. Apart from this, he will also distribute 31,000 pieces of galvanized iron (G.I.) sheets for those families whose houses were totally damaged by the typhoon.
The Department of Agriculture will provide Ph23 million financial assistance to local government unit of Pinamalayan for the rehabilitation of its agriculture areas.
Per latest report of the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development, there are still about 80 evacuation centers that are being managed by the local government units providing shelter to about 18,000 families or roughly 236,000 individuals in the province.
To date, it has already provided about Ph2.8 million worth of food packs to the the typhoon victims province-wide.
The President will be joined in his visit by some cabinet officials and officials of the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC). (VSM/PIA-R4B)
